Brightcore EDGE™ cooling for data centers

Reduce data center
cooling power.
Redeploy it as compute.

Brightcore's next-generation geothermal cooling solution for new and existing data centers reduces the power required for cooling which in turn unlocks additional compute capacity.

The problem

Cooling competes with compute for power.

At up to 35% of total site energy, cooling is the largest non-IT data center load. Every megawatt spent on cooling is a megawatt of compute that cannot be monetized.

The solution

Rethink cooling with Brightcore EDGE™.

Brightcore EDGE™ is a hybrid cooling platform that delivers the lowest watt-per-token cooling available by optimizing geothermal cooling with dry coolers and optional chillers. Stop relying on outdoor air for heat rejection when conventional equipment is least efficient.

The result

The lowest watt-per-token of any cooling solution.

Same Site. Same Power. Nineteen percent more compute.

How it works

Reject heat to the ground when the outside air is hot.

Conventional cooling systems reject heat to outdoor air, so they work hardest on the hottest days. Brightcore EDGE™ sends heat into naturally cool ground using only pumps and underground piping. Dry coolers and optional chillers run when conditions favor them. Brightcore EDGE™ software determines the most efficient option at every moment.

01

Measure

Reads live load, equipment, and weather data.

02

Predict

Forecasts cooling demand and outdoor conditions.

03

Operate

Operates geothermal, dry coolers, and chillers.

04

Optimize

Ground temperature is tracked across seasons and years to keep the borefield in balance.

System design

Brightcore EDGE™ active optimization allows for a much smaller borefield to do the work.

2 to 3xsmaller borefield than traditional geothermal

The Result: Geothermal for any geography, site, and scale.

  • Results vary by site, geography, and configuration. Illustrative only.

Deployment

Deployed in months.

Modular borefield design means installation happens in phases so cooling comes online as it gets built, minimizing speed to first token.

What does it cost compared to conventional cooling?

Comparable upfront cost. Lower ongoing cost.

How much land does the borefield need?

No land beyond your site. The bores run below grade, under parking lots and buildings.

Does it work in hot climates?

Yes. Heat goes into the ground, which stays cooler than the air. Brightcore EDGE™ works in all geographies.

What happens on the hottest day of the year?

The borefield takes the peak. The rest of the system works around it, so the full cooling load is met.

Can it be added to an existing data center?

Yes. Brightcore EDGE™ works with your existing cooling architecture and can be phased in while the site stays live.

How long does installation take?

Six months for a 250 MW borefield.
